
Steps Towards Development (Steps) is a national NGO working since 1993 with the mandate of the promotion and protection of gender equality, human rights and good governance. Steps is now a well reputed national organization in Bangladesh for its contribution in policy advocacy and campaign, Capacity building, research and study, networking and alliance building and undertaking outreach activities at the community level. Steps has skills and knowledge to produce effective print and audio-visual IEC materials as well as training modules. Steps has consultative status with ECOSOC and allied with various human rights forums/platforms and international human rights treaty procedures like CEDAW, UPR, CSW, Beijing PFA, SDG etc. Since October 2022, Steps activities continued in 61 districts and 491 upazilas of the country through different projects.
Steps strives to create a better society through eliminating all discriminations between women and men that exist in policy, law, institution, society and culture. Through this process, Steps links field experience and learning with policy level. Steps works with a gender equality and right based approach. With more than three decades of persistent efforts in strengthening the women’s rights movement in the country, Steps has earned recognition as a leading gender and rights-based organization in Bangladesh. Steps has been taking part in the movement for ensuring road safety in Bangladesh for a long time and it is actively participating in joint initiatives of Road Safety Coalition Bangladesh (RSCB) for over 3 years.
