Road Safety Coalition Bangladesh

On July 15, 2026, a discussion meeting was held at the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) to address behavioral risks in road safety in Bangladesh, existing policies and laws, and the challenges in their implementation.

Representatives from the Roads and Highways Department (RHD) included Mr. Engineer Dr. Shaheen Sarkar, Additional Project Director of the Bangladesh Road Safety Project (BRSP), and Mr. Engineer Shazedur Rahman, Executive Engineer and Project Manager (BRSP). The DTCA was represented by Mr. Mamunur Rahman, Senior Road Safety Specialist. The Road Safety Coalition Bangladesh was represented by Mr. Bazlur Rahman, Associate Professor at Dhaka International University (DIU), and Mr. Sharafat-E-Alam, Road Safety Project Officer for the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.

The meeting was moderated by Mr. Kazi Burhan Uddin, Project Manager for the Road Safety Team at the Center for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB). The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Dr. Selim Mahmud Chowdhury, Deputy Executive Director of CIPRB. Deputy Manager Dr. Samid Siddiqi and Communication Manager Arpana Ghosh also participated in the discussion.

The meeting provided a platform to discuss the key behavioral risk factors affecting road safety in Bangladesh and the risks associated with different categories of road users. Participants reviewed the role of existing laws and policies in addressing these risk factors, identified existing gaps, and explored opportunities to strengthen their inclusion in the proposed Comprehensive Road Safety Law (CRSL). There was broad consensus that coordinated and sustained efforts by both government and non-government organizations are essential for effective implementation.
