The third meeting of the committee assigned for drafting the Speed Management and Enforcement Guidelines/Manual took place on July 13 at the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).
During the meeting, the committee discussed strategies to expedite the preparation of drafting the guidelines/manual. It was decided to form a working group, replacing the previously established subcommittee, with the Center for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) designated as the secretariat to oversee the activities related to the drafting of the guideline/manual.
CIPRB and the BRAC road safety program were assigned to prepare the initial draft of the guidelines, deploying consultants/experts. Committee members were encouraged to provide their insights based on personal experience to enhance the guideline/manual.
The committee members discussed aligning the Speed Management and Enforcement guidelines/manual with the motor vehicle speed limit guidelines, 2024, published by the BRTA. The working group was directed to complete the initial draft within 60 days. The meeting concluded with a plan to reconvene in August 2026 to review the progress of drafting the guidelines/manual.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Mohammad Shahidullah, Director (Engineering) at BRTA and president of the committee. Other attendees included Ms. Tania Sultana PPM, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP); Mr. Nures-Samad, System Analyst at DMP; Mr. Md. Mukhlasur Rahman, Inspector (Urban and Transport) at Bangladesh Police Headquarters; and Engineer Ms. Faizuna Warda, Executive Engineer (Road Safety) at the Roads and Highways Department (RHD).
Additionally, Mr. Salim Mahmud Chowdhury, Deputy Executive Director of CIPRB, and Mr. Khalid Mahmud, Program Manager of the BRAC Road Safety Program, represented the Road Safety Coalition Bangladesh. Mr. Kazi Burhan Uddin, Road Safety Project Manager at CIPRB, served as the meeting secretary.
